Shiner Rainbow Fish (Notropis chrosomus)
The Shiner Rainbow Fish, also known as the Rainbow Shiner, is a freshwater fish native to the clear, cool rivers of the southeastern United States. Highly prized in aquariums for its vibrant colors, it is often compared to a true living jewel.
During breeding season, males display spectacular shades of pink, electric blue, and purple, contrasting beautifully with their translucent fins bordered in red. Their natural beauty makes them a prized species for temperate water aquariums.
The Rainbow Shiner is a peaceful, gregarious, and active fish. It should be kept in groups of at least 6 to 8 individuals to fully reveal its social behavior and colors. It prefers cool, well-oxygenated water, between 18 and 24 °C, and a well-planted aquarium with moderate current.
Ideal for aquarists looking for an original and dynamic fish, the Shiner Rainbow Fish brings sparkle and movement to any well-balanced community tank.
