Their schooling behavior also makes them wonderful fish to observe—a truly spectacular sight! To mate them, it's recommended to place 2 to 3 males with 4 to 5 females in an aquarium. Adding plants like Java moss at the bottom for egg deposition and providing hiding spots for the fry are essential. To encourage mating, lowering the water temperature by 3 degrees and reducing the pH to 5.5-6 is necessary, then patiently waiting.

As for water hardness, they prefer soft to moderately hard water, with a total hardness (GH) between 4 and 8 degrees and a carbonate hardness (KH) between 1 and 5 degrees.

Behaviorally, neon tetras are active and sociable fish that thrive in groups. They tend to swim in tight schools, which does a magnificent spectacle in the aquarium. However, it's important to maintain a group of at least six individuals to promote their well-being and reduce stress. In terms of environment, neon tetras prefer a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places and shaded areas for resting. They also appreciate adequate filtration to maintain good water quality.

Regarding diet, neon tetras are opportunistic omnivores. They primarily feed on small live organisms in the wild but readily accept flake, pellet, or tablet food in a home aquarium. It's also beneficial to offer them a variety of live or frozen foods, such as bloodworms, to supplement their diet and promote healthy growth.
