Among the most popular aquarium fish are bettas. Bettas are stunning fish with impressive fins and vibrant colors. To mate them, feed the male and female in separate tanks with frozen or live food for 2 weeks to fatten them up. Feed them 3 to 4 times a day. Then, observe the behavior of the female; a white spot should appear at the bottom of her belly, indicating she is ready to spawn. Next, introduce the female into the male's tank and observe them. If the male is very aggressive towards her, she will need to be removed and another female should be tried. Otherwise, he will build a bubble nest, and if the female accepts the bubble nest, she will lay eggs, and the male will place them in the nest and care for them for 3 days; after which, he should be removed. The female, on the other hand, should be removed on the first day of spawning. If the pair does not spawn on the same night, they should be isolated again for 2 weeks. The babies should not be fed for the first 2 days as they have a yolk sac that provides them with nutrients. Then, the babies will be fed infusoria for 1 week, followed by young brine shrimps or microscopic worms for 1 month. After 1 month, they will eat what the adults eat.
