Loaches: Active and Fascinating Companions for Your Aquarium
Loaches, also known as Botias, are freshwater fish with unique and captivating behavior. Primarily originating from Asia and Africa, these benthic fish spend most of their time near the substrate, actively foraging and exploring their environment. Popular species include the Kuhli Loach (Pangio kuhlii), the Clown Loach (Chromobotia macracanthus), and the Yo-Yo Loach (Botia almorhae).
These fish prefer to live in groups and thrive in spacious aquariums rich in hiding places, such as caves, roots, and dense plants. They are ideal for maintaining a clean substrate, as they feed on leftover food that has fallen to the bottom. Their diet can be supplemented with pellets, vegetables, or frozen worms.
With their social behavior and unique appearance, Loaches bring a touch of activity and diversity to any well-balanced aquarium.
