Kribensis Cichlid (Pelvicachromis pulcher)
The Kribensis Cichlid is a small gem native to West Africa, particularly prized for its vibrant colors and fascinating mating behavior. Females display a pink to purple hue on their bellies when ready to spawn, while males exhibit iridescent reflections across their entire bodies. It is an ideal species for beginner aquarists or well-planned community tanks.
Characteristics:
Adult size: 6 to 10 cm
Behavior: Territorial during breeding season, otherwise peaceful
Swimming zone: Bottom to middle
Water parameters:
Temperature: 24 to 27 °C
pH: 6.0 to 7.5
GH: 5 to 15 °dGH
KH: 4 to 10 °dKH
Tips:
Keep in pairs in an aquarium of at least 80 to 100 L, with natural decor including roots, plants, and hiding places (pots, caves). Very good parents, they vigorously protect their fry after spawning. They cohabit well with calm species of similar size. A varied diet (pellets, bloodworms, shrimp) helps enhance their coloration and vitality.
