The Blue Acara (Andinoacara pulcher) is a freshwater cichlid fish native to Central and South America, particularly popular in aquariums for its beautiful blue colors and relatively peaceful temperament for a cichlid. This fish displays metallic reflections ranging from turquoise blue to green, with vibrant patterns on its scales and fins, making it a visually striking addition to an aquarium.
The Blue Acara prefers well-planted aquariums with hiding places such as rocks and driftwood, as well as slightly alkaline to neutral water, with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. It adapts well to a wide range of temperatures, generally between 22°C and 28°C. This cichlid measures approximately 15 to 20 cm as an adult, so it is important to provide it with sufficient swimming space.
Although territorial, especially during the mating period, the Blue Acara can coexist with other similarly sized fish in a community aquarium. It feeds on a varied diet including pellets, flakes, as well as live or frozen prey such as bloodworms and shrimp.
Its balanced temperament, hardiness, and brilliant colors make the Blue Acara an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a colorful and active cichlid to their aquarium.
