Livingstoni Cichlid (Nimbochromis livingstonii)
The Livingstoni Cichlid is a cunning hunter from Lake Malawi, famous for its unique predation technique: it lies motionless on the sand, feigning death to surprise its prey. Its marbled brown, beige, and black pattern allows it to camouflage perfectly in its environment. It is a large cichlid with fascinating behavior, reserved for experienced aquarists.
Characteristics:
Adult size: 20 to 25 cm
Behavior: Predatory, territorial
Swimming zone: Bottom to middle
Water parameters:
Temperature: 24 to 28°C
pH: 7.8 to 8.6
GH: 10 to 20 °dGH
KH: 8 to 12 °dKH
Tips:
Keep in a large aquarium (minimum 500L) with a sandy substrate and some rocky structures. Avoid with small fish, which it might consider as prey. It cohabits best with other cichlids of similar size and temperament. Provide a diet rich in protein (carnivorous pellets, crustaceans, fish). Well-filtered water and low stress are essential for its well-being.
