The Clithon corona, also known as the Horned Nerite Snail, is a small freshwater gastropod prized in aquariums for its role as an algae-eater and its unique appearance. Originally from Southeast Asia, it boasts a shell adorned with small spikes or "horns," with yellow and black patterns reminiscent of a bee.
It typically measures between 1 and 2 cm and adapts well to freshwater aquariums with slightly alkaline and well-oxygenated water. This snail is an excellent ally against algae, feeding primarily on biofilm and microalgae present on aquarium surfaces.
Unlike invasive snails, Clithon corona do not breed in fresh water, as their larvae require a brackish water stage to develop. This makes it an ideal choice for aquarists seeking an effective snail without the risk of excessive proliferation.
