Red Laser Corydoras
The Red Laser Corydoras is a highly sought-after variety of Corydoras, prized for its metallic sheen and vibrant coloration which immediately catches the eye in a community aquarium. Originally from Peru (Loreto region, Amazon tributary), it lives in calm, shallow waters, rich in vegetation and with a sandy substrate.
Morphology
-
Size: 6 to 7 cm.
-
Beige to silver body with a very luminous, sometimes iridescent, red-orange lateral stripe, which gives it its name.
-
Bright eyes, sensitive barbels used for sifting through the substrate.
Behavior
This is a peaceful and gregarious fish, which absolutely must be kept in a group of at least 6 individuals to exhibit natural behavior and reduce stress. Very active, it spends a large part of the day sifting through the substrate in search of food.
Maintenance Parameters
-
Temperature: 22 – 26 °C
-
pH: 6.0 – 7.2
-
Hardness: 2 – 10 dGH
-
Recommended aquarium: minimum 120 liters, with a fine sand bottom and numerous hiding places (roots, plants, stones). Like all Corydoras, it is sensitive to abrasive substrates which can damage its barbels.
Diet
Omnivore: readily accepts sinking pellets, sinking granules, live or frozen foods (bloodworms, daphnia), as well as some vegetable supplements.
