The Corydoras similis, also known as the Violet Corydoras, is a small freshwater catfish native to Brazil. It belongs to the Callichthyidae family and is popular in aquariums for its peaceful temperament and gregarious behavior.
Measuring around 5 cm, this fish has a slender body with a subtle brown-beige hue nuanced with violet reflections, as well as a dark band running along its flank. Like all Corydoras, it has barbels that allow it to search the substrate for food.
It thrives in a group of at least six individuals in an aquarium of at least 80 liters, with a sandy substrate and well-oxygenated water. Omnivorous, it accepts a varied diet including granules, sinking pellets, bloodworms, and blanched vegetables.
Hardy and easy to care for, the Corydoras similis is an excellent choice for a community aquarium, where it will add vibrancy and serenity while helping to clean the substrate.
