The Golden Gourami is a golden variant of the Blue Gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus). It is prized for its vibrant yellow-orange color and robustness, making it an ideal fish for aquarists of all levels.

• Adult size: 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 inches)
• Lifespan: 4 to 7 years, or more with good care

🌿 Behavior and Tank Mates

The Golden Gourami is a semi-peaceful fish, but it can be territorial, especially between males. Here are some points to know:

• Dominant males: They can be aggressive towards their conspecifics and other slow or long-finned fish.
• Good tank mates with calm species such as Tetras, Corydoras, Rasboras, and some Dwarf Cichlids.
• Avoid overly lively or aggressive fish like Sumatra Barbs or male Bettas, which can cause conflicts.

🍽 Diet

Omnivorous, it accepts a wide variety of food:

• Pellets & flakes for tropical fish
• Live & frozen foods: brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia
• Blanched vegetables: zucchini, spinach

🏡 Aquarium Setup

• Minimum volume: 300L (79 gallons) for one individual, 450L (119 gallons) or more for several
• Plenty of hiding places: live plants (Anubias, Vallisneria, Ceratophyllum), roots, and rocks
• Low current: It prefers calm water
• Lid recommended: It can breathe at the surface thanks to its labyrinth organ and may jump out of the aquarium.
