The Coral Red Pencilfish (Nannostomus mortenthaleri) is a small freshwater fish native to the calm, slightly acidic rivers of the Amazon, primarily in Peru. Recognizable by its slender body and intense red coloration, it also features a thin, dark horizontal line that further accentuates its elegance.
This peaceful and gregarious fish enjoys living in groups of at least 6 to 8 individuals, making it ideal for community aquariums with other calm species. It thrives in densely planted aquariums, with subdued lighting and slightly acidic soft water (pH around 6 to 7).
Omnivorous, it feeds on small live or frozen prey like daphnia, as well as good quality dry food. With proper care, the Coral Red Pencilfish offers a lively and colorful spectacle, bringing a touch of exoticism and dynamism to any tropical aquarium.
