Swordtail Fish (Xiphophorus hellerii)

Swordtails, or  sword-bearer in English, are popular and colorful freshwater fish, appreciated for their elegance and ease of care. Native to Central America, these fish get their name from the sword-like extension of the males' caudal fin, which adds a spectacular touch to their appearance.

Peaceful and social, Swordtails adapt well to life in a community aquarium. They are viviparous, meaning they give birth to live, fully formed fry. They appreciate well-planted aquariums with plenty of swimming space, and slightly alkaline water between 22 and 28 °C.

Available in many colors (red, orange, green, marbled), Swordtails add a beautiful visual dynamic to any aquarium.
