Seachem Matrix Bio-Media is a professional-grade, high-porosity biological media designed to provide effective biofiltration, specifically targeted at removing nitrogenous waste in freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
This high-capacity biofiltration helps control harmful compounds such as ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites, maintaining these elements at safe levels to avoid harming your aquarium inhabitants.

The media is an inorganic solid approximately 10 mm in diameter and offers an exceptional surface area: each liter of Seachem Matrix Bio-Media provides as much surface area (<162 m²) as 40 liters of plastic balls!
The difference in terms of efficiency and space saving is impressive!
Furthermore, many plastic biological materials only offer an external surface for bacterial colonization, while this media has a vast internal macroporous surface, whose macropores are optimally sized to support the growth of beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria.
Unlike conventional biomedia, this allows Seachem Matrix Bio-Media to easily remove nitrates in addition to ammonia and nitrites, simultaneously and in the same filter, for a more efficient and powerful process.

The media is completely inert, does not degrade, and does not need to be replaced.
It is also compatible with almost all types of wet/dry filters and trickle filters.
